William L. Tolbert, 74, of Farmington, died peacefully in his home Wednesday, May 17, 2017. He was born Sept. 9, 1942, in Shiprock.
A U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam war, William served two tours in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and many more.
He attended Farmington High School, graduated from the N.M. Military Institute and attended Fort Lewis College. William then joined the U.S. Armed Forces where he served 10 years. He married Ann Tolbert (Owens) in 1973 and they raised seven children together. He went on to work in the Oilfield and worked for Aztec Well Service for 34 years before retiring in 2009. He spent his remaining years enjoying his dogs, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
William was preceded in death by his parents, brother, and his wife, Ann Tolbert. He is survived by his sons, Eric Tolbert, Jeff Tolbert (Ryoko), Mark, Greg and Brian Hogan; daughters, Susan Hayes (Wyatt) and Melissa Hogan; sister, Susan Carpenter (Pat); nephews, Daryl and Andy Carpenter; grandchildren, Matt Nelson (Chelsey), Brent Nelson (Rachel), Michell Sansom, Ashley Hogan, Seiya and Amy Tolbert; and great-grandchildren, Jase and Tucker Nelson, Raegan and Cooper Nelson.
A memorial service for Bill will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 25 at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 211 W. 20th St. in Farmington. Interment to follow at the Memory Gardens Cemetery, 6917 E. Main St. in Farmington.
