William "Bill" Vernon Moore, 67, of Farmington, on the evening of Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015, passed away peacefully at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington. Bill was surrounded by the love of his close family members at the time of his passing.
Bill was born Jan. 26, 1948, in Powers Lake, N.D. He was the oldest son of Shirley and Dix Moore. He was delivered into this world by his great-uncle Doc Goodman.
At the age of one, Bill moved with his family to the small mountain mining town of Victor, Colo. When Bill was eight years old his family came to Farmington, where he attended elementary school at Swinburne and Ladera, Hermosa Middle School and Farmington High School. His father, Dix Moore owned Moore's Texaco where Bill worked beside his dad and other family members.
Blll graduated from Farmington High school in 1966 and he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as an Airman Aircraft Mechanic. Bill completed basic military training in 1967, and spent the next year at numerous jet engine mechanic training courses, Bill was deployed during the Vietnam War to Udorn, Thailand at Udorn Air Force Base as an F4 Phantom Jet Fighter Mechanic and Crew Chief. Bill achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and earned the Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon and the National Defense Service Medal.
After eight years of active duty service with the U.S. Air Force, Bill returned to work with his father and family at Moore's Texaco until leaving to work in the oil field industry for several years in Texas and Oklahoma. Bill returned to Farmington in 1992, and began working 7-2-11 in 1994, until his retirement in 2014.
Bill met Liz while working at 7-2-11, in 1995. Bill and Liz started dating in 2005 and after a nine year courtship Bill and Liz ware married on Feb. 19, 2014. Bill loved drag racing from an early age and raced and worked at the Farmington Drag Strip. Bill was an avid Pittsburg Steelers fan and loved coaching his son in Baseball.
Bill Moore leaves behind his loving wife, Liz Randolph Moore; his two sons, William Blane Moore (Julia) and JD Randolph (Erin); daughter, Jacque Tubbs (Josh); his baby brother, Leonard Bryan Moore (Joann); and sister, Lori Moore (Eleanor); grandchildren, Chance, Cadence, Cailyn, Charlie, Hunter, Sam, Aunt Dalyce and Uncle Roy Harris, Uncle Bob and Aunt Judy Satran and Aunt Sandra and Uncle Ron Davis; and
numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Dix and Shirley Moore and his sister, Barbara Jo Moore.
A small family service was held at Bill and Liz's residence on Monday, Sept. 21.
