Wilburt "Leo" Evans
August 31, 1938 - January 12, 2016
Wilburt "Leo" Evans, 77, a resident of Bloomfield was born August 31, 1938 in Proctor, Texas to Robert Henry Evans and Willie Mae (Luker) Evans. He was reunited in heaven with his parents and five brothers on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 in Farmington.
Leo graduated from Aztec High School in 1957. After graduation he joined the US Army and served his country proudly. He worked for Southern Union Gas Company as the warehouse supervisor until he retired. Leo was devoted to caring for his mother after his Dad passed in 1968 until her death. He farmed on the East Hammond land with his brother and loved fishing. Leo was always proud of his garden and shared his vegetables with family and friends. He loved his church family and was a father figure to many nieces and nephews. He was always willing to give a helping hand to those in need.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Cecil Evans (Bobbie), Joseph Evans, R.W. Evans (Lou), Tommy Evans, and Frank Evans (Ellen).
He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Wanda Evans and Darlene Evans, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friend Dorothy Randolph. Leo was "Papa" to Shyloh Randolph.
Viewing will be today, Thursday, January 14th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cope Memorial Chapel of Farmington, 404 W. Arrington St.
Funeral services for Leo are Friday, January 15th at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 200 W. Sycamore in Bloomfield with Pastor Monte Mullenix officiating. Interment with full military honors provided by VFW Post #2182 of Farmington will follow the service at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 6917 East Main St., Farmington.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions in Leo's name be made to First Baptist Church, 200 W. Sycamore, Bloomfield, NM 87413
