Wayne Wilbur Dallas was born in Pawnee, OK, on January 11, 1919, to Riley Elmer Dallas and Mary Mabel Clark Dallas. He has been a resident of the San Juan Basin since 1936. He attended The University of New Mexico where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. He worked as a roughneck in the oilfields of central Oklahoma and Southern Texas. Wayne enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in 1941 and earned the rank of lieutenant. He was a B17 pilot with the 447th Bomb Group from July 1943 to June 1945. Wayne was awarded the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Presidential Unit Citation and the Distinguished Flying Cross. After being discharged in 1945, he returned to Farmington and married Cassie Lois Stiles on August 17, 1945. Wayne was employed by Phillips Petroleum, Southern Union and El Paso Natural Gas Co where he retired after 29 years and nearly 40 years in the petroleum business. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Ballut Abyad Shriners, Masonic Lodge and Elks Lodge. Wayne was always around horses and in 1993 his horse Treacherously was the champion two quarter horse when he won the Grade 1 Sun Country, Ruidoso and Rainbow Futurities and finished third in the All-American Futurity.
Wayne was preceded in death by his wife Cassie Stiles Dallas; parents Riley Elmer Dallas, Mary Mabel Clark Dallas, brothers Elmer (Kate) Dallas, Dale (Roberta, Lois) Dallas and Loyd (Bonnie) Dallas and a sister Elise (John) Bloomfield.
He leaves behind his children; son David Wayne Dallas (Mary Angela); daughters Jan (Philip) Keck and Gwen (Bob) Goff; 6 grandchildren Derek (Malia) Keck, Tiffany (Scott) Heritsch, Mandy Goff, Casey Goff, Cullen Dallas and Kiley Dallas; 4 great-grandchildren Tayla Heritsch, Bryce Heritsch, Alexander Keck and Lei lani Keck and many dear friends and colleagues.
Cremation has taken place and the memorial service for Wayne will be held Wednesday, September 28th, at 10:00 a.m., at First United Methodist Church, 808 N. Monterey in Farmington, with Pastor Brian Adams officiating. Innichement will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery where Wayne will be placed next to his wife Cassie.
