Wanda Dare Emery, 96 of Aztec, passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2015. She was born on August 15, 1919 in Bryan County, Okla. to Virgil and Faye Ford.
Wanda was a real pioneer woman. Can you imagine? In 1919, women were fighting for the right to vote. Now, they are experiencing the digital age of social media and selfies. Wanda's lifetime spanned almost a century of change.
Wanda's life and passion was Sherman Emery, her husband of 63 years, and their family of 7 children. Homesteading in New Mexico, gardening and canning were a necessity of life and became a passion. When Wanda was on her own she began quilting. The quilts weren't fancy. She called them "utility" quilts. Wanda lived her life to the fullest. She was canning and quilting until the day she died.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband John Sherman Emery; son Glenn Ernest Emery; daughter Rebecca Ann Emery, parents Virgil and Faye Ford; brother Pat Ford; and granddaughter Lisa Emery.
She is survived by her sons Allen (Pat) Emery, Fred Emery, Dean (Margie) Emery, and John (Mary Beth) Emery; daughter Kay Zarlingo; daughter-in-law Iris Emery; brother Virgil (Frances) Ford; sister Edeen Tullis; 23 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM Saturday, November 21st at Cope Memorial Chapel in Aztec, 405 S. Main St.. Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday November 21st at Calvary Chapel, 6925 E. Main St., in Farmington, with Pastor Andy Fine officiating. Interment to follow at Aztec Cemetery.
