Walt McReynolds, 74, passed away peacefully at home on November 8, 2013. He was born January 14, 1939, in Espanola, New Mexico to Thomas Lee and Laura McReynolds .
In his early years he lived in Williams, Arizona and Durango, Colorado. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the Navy and served for 3 1/2 years. At this time he married Mercedes Conner on July 1, 1958 in Aztec and spent 55 years together. He and Mercedes spent several years in California where he worked for the City of Buena Park in the Water Department. In 1976 they moved to New Mexico where he spent many weekends camping and fishing. If he wasn't doing this, he was doing some project at home or helping his neighbors with their projects.
In 1995 he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and was confined to his scooter with his loving wife Mercedes by his side to tend to any needs he had. His family was the most important part of his life and he will be greatly missed.
Walt is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Sherry Lynn McReynolds; his brother, Jim A. McReynolds; and his granddaughter, Jacqueline Trujillo.
He is survived by his wife, Mercedes; his son, Walter T. (Dena) McReynolds; daughters, Debbie (Ernie) Sanchez and Natalie(Mike) Trujillo; his sisters, Nora Thurstonson and Pat (Jim) Corken; grandchildren, Amanda, Erika, Brandon McReynolds, Priscilla (Mark) Sanchez, Steven Trujillo, Bryant (Ava) Trujillo; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Alexis, and Vincent Sanchez, Davon Trujillo, Damian, Dayton Trujillo, and Destinee Chavez ; numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 3:30 p.m. Saturday, November 16 at Aztec Church of Christ, 201 Ruins Rd. in Aztec. Pastor Johnathan Dobbs will be officiating.
Honorary pallbearers are Ernie Sanchez, Mike Trujillo and Rodney Conner.
Walt care is entrusted to Cope Memorial Chapel, 405 S. Main Ave. in Aztec, 505-334-9332.
