Virgil S. Lucero Sr

July 21, 1932 — August 12, 2014

Virgil S. Lucero Sr., 82, of Kirtland, our beloved father and grandfather went home to our heavenly Father Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014. He left peacefully with his loved ones by his side. Virgil was born July 21, 1932, in Anton Chico, to Andres and Rufina Lucero.
He was a loving, caring, supportive father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to all who knew him. He was passionate about spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and many friends. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and hunting with his sons, grandsons and close friends, as well as, watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports. He moved into the Kirtland community in 1957. He worked in construction until his retirement from the teamsters union in 1997.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andres and Rufina Lucero; five siblings, Secundino, Ann, Salmon, Faviola and Benito; his beloved wife of 60 years, Clara Maria Lucero (Lujan); and great-grandsons, Eric Gallegos and Grant Lucero.
Virgil is survived by his seven children, Jeanette Lucero of Port Mansfield, Texas, David Lucero and wife Kim of McKinney, Texas, Anthony Lucero and wife Tanya of Farmington, Virginia Lucero of Parker, Colo., Ruth Weber and husband Chuck of Aztec, Barney Lucero and wife Lisa of Kirtland, Virgil Lucero Jr. and wife Ramona of Fruitland; 21 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter, siblings, Nerio Lucero, Lucy Chavez (Gabe), Jennie Lucero and Andy Lucero (Rosie); and dear friend Henrietta Valdez. He loved all of them so dearly. Virgil also had numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who were dear to his heart. He will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to have known him.
Viewing and visitation will be at 6 p.m. today and a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Parish in Farmington. A remembrance of his life will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 16 at Sacred Heart Parish, 414 N Allen Ave., in Farmington, with Father Tim Farrell as celebrant. Interment will follow where he will be laid to rest with his beloved wife in Kirtland-Fruitland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Connelly Hospitality House, 710 S Lake St., Farmington, NM.
Pallbearers are his nine grandsons, Tony Lucero, David Lucero Jr., Chris Lucero, Jeremy Clarence, Aaron Lucero, Garrett Lucero, Chuck Weber Jr., Jordan Lucero and Adam Lucero. Honorary pallbearers are Chuck Weber Sr., Eric Maestas, Leon Yazzie, Ron Kennedy, Herman Lujan and Pete Lujan.
