Violet (Vi) Delores Peace, of Aztec, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2014, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Smethport, Pa., on June 20, 1930, and graduated from Smethport High School in 1948. She attended the Bradford Hospital School of Nursing in Bradford, Pennsylvania and graduated as a registered nurse in 1951. She married her husband of 62 years, Thomas H. Peace, Dec. 29, 1951. Vi and Tom moved to Aztec in 1959, where they raised four children.
Vi worked part-time on the Medical Floor at San Juan Regional Medical Center for many years. Everyone knew her as a very caring nurse, and she was a very loving wife and mother. She was very involved in her community and was named the Aztec Citizen of the Year.
Vi was preceded in death by her mother, Florance Galloway and her brothers Bryce Marks and Art Marks. She is survived by her husband Tom, sons, Jeff (Martha), Jerry, and Jim; and daughter Lorie Peace. She has six grandchildren, Michelle Kelton, Natalie Cordova, Jeffrey Peace, Wayne Peace, Jason Peace and Ashlie Maxwell. She was also blessed with 10 great-grandchildren, and one more will join the family in September.
Funeral services for Vi will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 9, at Cope Memorial Chapel in Aztec. Violet's care is entrusted to Cope Memorial Chapel of Aztec, 405 S. Main Ave., 505-334-9332.
