Vernon Arnold Schlueter

December 23, 1924 — March 10, 2013

Vernon Arnold Schlueter, 88, of Farmington was called home to his heavenly father on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at the Bridge Assisted Living of Farmington. He was born December 23, 1924 in Proctor, Colorado to Henry and Anita Schlueter.

Vernon attended high school in Sterling, Colorado and enjoyed playing football. Later he served his country in the US Army during World War II in the Pacific and in Japan and received the Victory Medal. Vernon enjoyed gambling, horse racing, casinos and the stock market. Vernon's great-grandson Liam was born on his birthday on December 23, 2011. He will always be remembered for his smile and quick wit. Vernon was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and dear friend. Mr. Schlueter will be greatly missed.

Vernon leaves behind his daughter Tricia Scollon and husband Anthony of Hemet, California; son Errol Conklin and wife Margaret of Farmington; grandchildren Scott Conklin, Jessica Conklin, Levi Conklin, Megan Scollon and Allyson Scollon; great-grandchildren Makenzie Conklin and Liam Conklin; brothers Edward Schlueter, Arnold Schlueter, and Raymond Schlueter; sisters Darlene, Gwen and Marjorie and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Alice Schlueter in 2004, great grandson Jacob Conklin in 2009; brothers Ernest, Adolf and Harold Schlueter; and his sisters Elizabeth, Gloria, Erna and Doris.

A celebration of Vernon's life will be Thursday, March 14 at 10:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Chruch, 7455 N. Foothills Drive in Farmington with Pastor Gary Thur officiating. He will then be laid to rest at Greenlawn Cemetery next to his wife Alice with full military honors being provided by VFW Post #2182 of Farmington.

Pallbearers are Levi Conklin, Scott Conklin, Errol Conklin, Steve Lanier, Anthony Scollon and Jeremiah Scollon.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made in Vernon's memory to the Wounded Warriors Project, Attention Advanced Guard, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.

Vernon's services are entrusted to Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, (505) 325-8688.
