Verna Baxter of Bloomfield, passed away peacefully Wedesnday December 20, 2017 at home with her family surrounding her. She was born June 25, 1933 in Post, Texas, the daughter of Walter Arda and Jewel (Pennell) Long.
She was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi. Verna enjoyed many years of being on a bowling league. In her later years, she crochet baby blankets that she graciously donated to San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington to be given to all new parents for their special arrivals. Verna loved dressing Barbie dolls and making Barbie clothes with her daughters and granddaughters. She was an avid Denver Broncos and Dallas Cowboy fan. Verna will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years Doyle Baxter in 2011; her granddaughter Sharron Rios, great grandson Karson Paschall and a great-granddaughter Suza David Baeza.
Verna leaves behind her 5 children. Doyle Wayne Baxter (Kathy) of Aztec; Darrell Baxter of Bloomifeld; Phyllis Young (David) Mentone, TX; Cynthia Paschall (Mike) of Aztec, Annette Davis (Richard) of Aztec; 17 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren and 2 sweet bundles on the way, also surviving is her brother Fred Long (Billie) of Burlson, TX and numerous nephews and dear friends.
Visitation for Verna is today Friday, Dcember 22nd from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Cope Memorial Chapel of Aztec, 40t South Main in Aztec.
Funeral services are Saturday, December 23rd at 10:30 a.m. at Cope Memorial Chapel of Aztec, 405 South Main Street in Aztec with Pastor Pete Albo officiating. Interment to follow at the Aztec Community Cemetery, 700 Chamisa Avenue in Aztec. Pallbearers are Steve Young, Cory Bentley, Robert Paschall, David Davis, John Paschall, Anthony Hartman, Buddy Baxter and Jeremy Hartman. Honorary pallbearers are all grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Donations can be made in Verna's memory to the Salvation Army and the VFW Post #614 in Aztec. Special thanks to the Guardian Angel Hospice Group, San Juan Regional Medical Center and to the P.A.L.S. organizations for their care of our mother.
Verna's services are entrusted to Cope Memorial Chapel of Aztec, 405 South Main St. in Aztec, (505) 334-9332
