Velma (Curley) Cleveland

March 30, 1938 — December 10, 2013

Velma Phyllis Cleveland passed from this earth on December 10, 2013 in Farmington, New Mexico; her family never left her side.
Velma was born on March 30, 1938 in Fort Defiance, Arizona. She joins her beloved daughter, Cheryl Cleveland, grandson, Brian A. McKim and her father and mother: Nat Curley, Sr. and Ora Lee Chatter Curley. Velma was of the Mountain Cove People (Dzilth'lani) and born for Salt (Ashihi) Clan. Velma married Hugh Cleveland, Jr. in 1955, at Christ the King Catholic Church, in Shiprock, New Mexico.
She leaves behind six children: Gwen McKim, Elaine Cleveland-Mason, Darrell Cleveland, Karen Hetrick, Gayle Maruffo-Cleveland, and Gabriel Cleveland; also, many grandchildren and great grandchildren that loved her dearly.
Velma was a caring devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She put her family first, and she was always there for everyone. She was the pillar of her family and her sweet personality touched everyone that she knew. Her image was delicately dainty, yet she was the strongest and toughest woman that kept her family together, even in death; a true spirit of God. She will never be forgotten by all of us who loved her.
Rosary and Viewing will be held Friday, December 13th 7:00p.m. at Sacred Heart Church. Funeral service will be Saturday, December 14th at 10:00 am also at Sacred Heart Church in Farmington, N.M.
