After a lengthy illness at home, our beloved Husband, Brother, Father and Papa, Tom Montoya, was granted peace and a place in our Heavenly Father's Kingdom on February 17, 2021, at Farmington, New Mexico.
Tom was sixty-eight years old and born to Rafel L. and Josie (Jacquez) Montoya in Riverside, New Mexico, the youngest of six children. He retired in 2014 from the oil and gas industry in the San Juan Basin. He was a 1970 graduate of Farmington High School.
Tom married the former Kathy Mascaranas and they had two beautiful children, Jeremy and Kandice. After their divorce, Tom met Stacy Shires Kelly in 1989 and they married in 1991. From this union Tom raised Ryan Kelly as his son from the time he was nine years old.
Tom is survived by his wife of thirty years, Stacy Montoya of Farmington, his sons Jeremy (Cheri) Montoya of Kirtland and Ryan Kelly of Santee, California, his grandchildren Gabriel (Go Navy!), Julian Montoya and Aaliyah Kelly, his brothers Carmen Paul (Kathy) Montoya of Cocoa Beach, Florida and Ralph (Christine) Montoya of Farmington and numerous nephews and nieces, great nephews and nieces and cousins.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Rafel L. Montoya and Josie Vigil, his three sisters, Aurelia (Gary) Harrison of Tijeras, Viola (Tom) Williamson of Mesa, Arizona and Libby Heredia and her husband Eddie Heredia of Farmington, his nieces Elyssa Montoya and Sophia Williamson.
He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Kandice Montoya and his grandson Marquis Montoya. Their Dad and Papa have them in his arms now and is spoiling them rotten.
Tom was adored and loved by his wife, sons, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Nothing was too good for them as far as he was concerned and he valued his family above all. He was proud of his children and a proud Papa to his grandchildren. His concern and care for his family was a blessing to all of us we will value for years to come.
Special thanks to the Angels of Basin Hospice, Bernadette, Dawn, Leandra, Fay, Meagan and Tracie; Ralph and Chris Montoya, University of Texas at Dallas, Dr. Abernathey, Dr. Neidhart, Dr. Pandya and the teachers of Ladera Elementary for taking care of our family during this difficult time.
Tom is in the care of Brewer, Lee and Larkin in Farmington and a tentative Service by Pastor Juan Santana and Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, July 3, 2021. Perhaps the City of Farmington will supply the fireworks. It will be held at the family home with details to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in his memory be made to ECHO Food Bank of Farmington to help Tom's community during this time. Checks can be sent to 401 South Commercial Avenue, Farmington, NM 87401 or visit their website.
