Thomas Randall (Randy) Heath, 54, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2014, in Bisbee, Arizona. He was born on February 6, 1960 to Rodney and Jean Heath in Farmington, the fourth of five sons. Randy attended local schools from first grade through high school, and participated in many different sports. He was a stellar athlete in football, basketball, and baseball. In 1978 he set the Farmington High School record for the most stolen bases in a season. He joined the Army and became a Ranger at Fort Benning, Georgia from 1986 through 1988. Being accepted to, and excelling in, the Army Rangers is a challenge very few people can master. It takes a squared-away individual possessing motivation, dedication, physical ability, intelligence, and pure fortitude of the highest levels. Randy wore the Ranger Tab with honor, distinction, and courage. He was honorably discharged due to an injury received from a parachute jump. He received a Civil Engineering degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 1994. He spent numerous years in the construction field. Randy was known for large, very random acts of generosity. He had a kind soul and a gentle nature, and a very mischievous grin and an infectious laugh. He was adventurous and sometimes fearless. Randy enjoyed exploring the desert, caves, mountains, and loved beautiful sunrises and sunsets. He preferred a quiet evening under the stars to the noise and hustle of modern life. He will always be remembered for his personal qualities of kindness, courage, and intelligence. Randy is survived by his parents, Rodney and Jean, brothers Forrest (Frosty) from Katy, Texas; Gary and his wife, Karen, from Farmington; Doug and wife, Leslie, from Sacramento, California, and Bryan and wife, Becky, from Farmington. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and many friends. He was deeply loved by all. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, with Pastors John Preston and Steve Ballew officiating. His cremation has already taken place. He will be placed between his maternal grandparents Douglas and Emma Belle Brown at Greenlawn Cemetery on Monday, March 3. We find great comfort knowing that he is now at eternal peace. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Wounded Warrior Project, National Processing Center, PO Box 758541, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8541. Randy's care is entrusted to Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 East Ute St., Farmington, (505) 325-8688.
