Thomas William "Tommy" Bond, 83, of Kirtland, formerly of McAlester, Okla., died Monday, May 15, 2017, at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was born April 25, 1934, in McAlester, Okla., to Clark Haywood Bond and Julia Lee Berry Bond. He graduated from McAlester High School in the Class of 1952. His mother later married William "Bill" Fleck on July 3, 1951.
While in high school, he started working at Jenks' service station. He married Rose Lee Armstrong on July 6, 1952. He then started work at First National Bank as a teller. He worked at the bank until 1976, where he was a vice-president and assistant trust officer.
He left McAlester, Okla., moved to Farmington in 1976, and went to work for First National Bank of Farmington. He married Catherine Foutz Prince on March 7, 1980, in Kirtland. He retired from First National Bank of Farmington as an executive vice-president and trust officer.
He was retired from the United States Army Reserve.
He was a member of Kirtland Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He enjoyed playing golf, reading, hunting and fishing.
Tommy was preceded in death by his father, Clark Haywood Bond, on Nov. 17, 1990; his mother, Julia Fleck, on Oct. 25, 2014; his second wife, Catherine Bond, on April 25, 2006; and numerous aunts and uncles. He is survived by two daughters, Denise Cantrell, of McAlester, Okla., and Debbie Bond, of Albuquerque; two grandchildren, Charity Clayton and husband, Jamie, of McAlester, Okla., and Tommy Lee Cantrell Jr. and Robyn Garduno, of Albuquerque; five great-grandchildren, Michael Cantrell and wife, Kailey, of Austin, Texas, Ashley Staton and husband, Lloyd, of McAlester, Okla., Christopher Botts and wife, Ivanna, of Stringtown, Okla., and Adriana Vialpando and Erika Montoya, both of Albuquerque; nine great great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Cantrell, Chloe Staton, Braxton Staton, Karleigh Staton, Timberleigh Botts, Thomas Hensley, Zeana Rose Botts, and River and Ryker; the mother of his children, Rose Lee Bond, of McAlester, Okla.; several step-children and step-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 21, at the Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 East Ute St. in Farmington.
A funeral service for Tommy will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 22, at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 East Ute St., in Farmington with Bishop Rodney Warner officiating, pallbearers are; Tommy Lee Cantrell, Jr., Brandon Prince, Eric Jennings, Alan Prince, Mike Prince and Jerry Prince. Burial will follow at the Kirtland-Fruitland Cemetery in Kirtland with full military honors being provided by VFW Post #2182 and the Masons.
