Terrance Keith “Terry” Higgins
Bloomfield – 8/8/1938 – 1/16/2023
Terry was born in Altus, OK to Dee and Bill Higgins. Terry was the oldest sibling of 5 and the only boy. In 1956, Terry married his high school sweetheart Beverly Ann Leach and set off on their new life together, settling initially in Ignacio, CO where they welcomed their first son Garye. The family eventually settled in Kirtland while working for El Paso Naturally Gas and welcomed two more boys, (Terry) Bret and (Christopher) Rex. The family then became incredibly involved in the community in Kirtland, most notably Terry was coaching youth football, as well as other sports and any activity his boys took interest in. Terry was a part of starting the YAFL football program in the area and coached many teams. In 1975, Terry and Beverly purchased the Bloomfield Pawn Shop where, together, they built a thriving business and established roots in their new home and community of Bloomfield where they continued to make an impact for many years to come. Terry continued to coach his boys and was on the school board, just to name a couple of things (among many other roles). Terry cherished his time with his wife Beverly, and his three boys and loved the great outdoors. Many family trips were taken with the boys and then eventually with their grandkids. Terry also loved watching his boys and grandkids race over the years.
Terry is preceded in death by his beautiful bride Beverly, his mother and father Bill and Dee Higgins, baby brother Gary Dee Higgins, youngest sister, Kim Washington, and granddaughter, Alaricia Higgins.
Terry is survived by sisters, Judy (Charles) Haywood, Jane (Richard) Shelton, and Debbie (Fred) Springer. Three sons: Garye (Kris) Higgins, Bret (Bonnie) Higgins, and Rex (Becky) Higgins. Eight grandkids: Garrett (Kami) Higgins, Justin (Savannah) Higgins, Kasey (Robert) McNamara, Matthew (Caley) Higgins, Michael Higgins (Kris Woodward), Candice (James) Franklin, Christopher (Tasha) Higgins, Maygen (Steffan) Carey. Fifteen great-grandkids: Rivver (Bana) Higgins and Brianna Higgins; Ella, Noah, and Claudia Higgins; Vivien and Auden McNamara; Jase Higgins; Jice and Alvin Franklin; Drayton, Taytem, and Esyn Higgins; Witten and Carter Carey. One great-great-grandchild, Theo Higgins.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at San Juan Regional Medical Center for their outstanding care for Terry during his final day. We are forever grateful for them going above and beyond what was expected.
Terry and Beverly were married 65 years before her passing in 2021. This may have been Terry’s proudest accomplishment in life. The Captain has now rejoined his Drum Major.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Aztec Animal Shelter.
Terry’s care is entrusted to Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home, 103 East Ute Street, Farmington, New Mexico.
