Steven M. Mellody
June 12, 1954 - Oct. 4, 2017
Steven M. Mellody, 63, of Farmington, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, in Aztec. He was born June 12, 1954, in Kansas City, Mo.
Steve was a graduate of Christ the King grade school, Rockhurst High School and the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
The Rocky Mountains called to Steve early while vacationing with his family, it was there he chose to live after college. He moved to Farmington in 1980, worked at the San Juan Community College, and later became a dental assistant in Durango, Colo., among other various jobs.
Steve was an outdoorsman, rafting, fly fishing and backpacking. There wasn't a mountain trail or peak not investigated, a river not rafted or stream not fished. Mostly Steve was a friend to many; never having a bad word to say about anyone.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, James and Margie Mellody; and sister-in-law, Kathie Mellody. He is survived by a vast family of friends: Mark, John, Frank, Ken, Bill and Tom, along with Alicia and all the ladies Steve guided hiking, fishing and rafting. These men and women supported and cared for Steve through many years of friendship, especially through his battle of cancer.
Steve also leaves a brother Jim (Karen) Mellody Jr., a sister Margi (John) Ainsworth. Nieces and nephews: Jim (Michelle) Mellody III, Lesley (Scott) Hofer, Mellody (Jack) Riley and Matthew Ainsworth. Great-nieces: Jenna, Addison, Aiden, Payton, Mya and Norah.
Thank you to the doctors, nurses, nurse's aides, techs, social workers and many others at the San Juan Hospital. We also thank the entire staff at Crane's Roost Care Home; they provided unsurpassed attention for Steve's needs. Our special thanks go to April, and entire staff, who personally cared and bantered with Steve. Lastly, we wish to thank Krista, at Basin Home and Hospice, words cannot express our gratitude. Krista is truly an angel who helped Steve move on to sleep under the stars forever.
Steve, you will be dearly missed and in our hearts forever.
