Spencer Harry Garrett

Spencer H. Garrett of Farmington, New Mexico died of pulmonary fibrosis at the age of 70, early Wednesday morning, September 23, 2015, at the San Juan Regional Medical Center. He was born in Afton, Wyoming to Gordon and Roxie Turner Garrett.

Spencer grew up on a dairy farm in Star Valley, Wyoming. As a young boy he enjoyed hunting, skiing and being outdoors. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southern States mission in 1964-66. He served from 1966 to1972 in the Army National Guard as a motor sergeant. He studied diesel mechanics at the Utah Technical College in Provo graduating in 1968.

During this time he met his sweetheart Dosca Jo Webb. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. The early years of their marriage were spent in Provo, Utah and Glenwood Springs, Colorado, settling in Farmington, New Mexico. Their lives were filled with many trials, travel and triumphs. They are the proud parents of seven children, three sons and four daughters.

He was a well known business owner in the four corners area. Spencer's Diesel Clinic served the trucking and oil industry for 31 years and employed many people including all of his children. His hobbies included recreational piloting, practical jokes, coin collecting, storytelling and serving his family and community. He had the great ability to organize anything from paperwork to large events. He was good at technology, bookkeeping and constructing. Near the end of his life he and Dosca enjoyed serving missions for their church. He was widely known in the community for being generous, loving and embracing of everyone for who they were.

Above all he was a man of God and invited all to have a relationship with Him. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, son, grandfather, and great grandfather. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Roxie Turner Garrett, sisters, Eliane Garrett and Myrna Garrett Chapman, brother, Lonnie Garrett, and grandsons, Therin Garrett Jr., and Logan S. Johnson.

He was survived by his wife Dosca Webb; children: Tresta Neil, Tyren Garrett, Tara Dugger, Trent Garrett, Therin Garrett, Timille Johnson, and Telsie Graziano; his sister, Marilynn Crane, brothers LaRon and Duane Garrett; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In his final years he valiantly endured colon cancer, a massive heart attack, and his body eventually succumbed to lung disease.

Services will be held at the LDS chapel at 902 West Blanco Blvd. in Bloomfield, New Mexico on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 1 p.m. The burial will take place immediately following the funeral at the Hammond Cemetery.
