Sikahema 'Sika' Kauvaka, 56, of Aztec, NM, returned home to Heavenly Father on Monday,August 31, 2015 in Farmington, NM after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on September 19, 1958 and grew up in Uiha, Tonga. Sika is the son of Sione Kauvaka and Siutiti (Lolohea) Kauvaka. He attended Liahona High School in Nuku'alofa, Tonga.
He came to the United States in 1979 and in 1981 attended LDS Business College where he met Tammy Kaylene Spickelmier. They were married October 8, 1982, sealed on March 16, 1984 at the St. George LDS Temple. He has been a resident in Aztec, NM where he has engaged in his passion of martial arts training for the last 30 years at Master Kauvaka's System Schools.
He was preceded in death by his father, Sione Kauvaka; brothers, Nau Kauvaka and Paula Kauvaka.
Sika leaves his mother, Siutiti Kauvaka; brothers, Poukei Kauvaka, Fenuki Kauvaka, Sapolani Kauvaka, Alipate; his wife of 32 years, Tammy Kaylene (Spickelmier) Kauvaka; his daughter, Siutiti Kauvaka; his sons, Falakiko Kauvaka and wife Jamie Ohnemus, and Sapolani Kauvaka and wife Brentany Torrez-Chaffin; grandchildren, Parker, Owyn, Addisyn; and many close friends and family.
A viewing for Sika will be held on Saturday September 5th at 9:00 a.m and the service will begin at 10:30 a.m. at 505 N. Oliver Dr. Aztec, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop David Larsen conducting. Burial will follow and will be at the Marvel Community Cemetery in Marvel, Colorado.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the San Juan Regional Medical Center, Huntsman Cancer Treatment Center, University of Utah Health Center, Farmington Fire Safety Equipment, and all who contributed to his Go Fund Me account.
