Sam Christensen Obituary
Samuel Cluff Christensen, 82, passed away on November 23, 2021 in Farmington New Mexico. Sam was born on January 9, 1939 in Manassa, Colorado to Cluff Hyrum Christensen and Jane Elizabeth Schofield. He graduated from Farmington High School in 1957 and attended Findley Engineering College in Kansas City, Missouri. The following year he married his high school sweetheart Nellie Mae Goodwin. Following graduation, he and Nellie Mae moved back to Farmington. He became a licensed architect. After working some years for Ralph Philippi, he started the Firm of Samuel Christensen Architect. In 1982, he went to work for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints as a construction manager until his retirement.
Sam had many talents and interests. He always had a beautiful yard and flowers. He loved working with wood and made many rocking chairs, jewelry boxes, and baby cradles for family members. He loved camping and fishing. He taught his grandsons and many others how to fly fish.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he served in many positions including a member of the High Council and the Bishop of Farmington 4th Ward.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Pete Christensen and his wife Rynda. His beloved wife Nellie Mae passed away in 2013.
He is survived by his son Dwain, his daughter Tanya Kimball, his grandchildren Steven (Mackenzie), Brandon (Stacia), Jeffrey, and Emily and his great grandchildren Kirra Mae and Brooklynn. He is also survived by his sister Joanne (Gene) Elliott, and his brother Tim (Joyce) Christensen.
There will be a viewing on Friday, December 10 from 6 to 8 pm at Brewer Lee & Larkin Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday December 11, 2021 at the Apache Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 400 W. Apache, with a viewing at 9:00 am and a funeral service at 10:00 am. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.
