March 18, 1949 - July 21, 2015
Russell "Rusty" Fay Williams was born March 18, 1949, in St. Johns, Mich., to Lawrence and Georgia Williams.
He was the third of three boys that were all born on March 18th. Dennis the oldest in 1946, James in 1947 and Russell was born two years later, to the day.
His father was killed in 1954, when Rusty was 5 years old. His mother later remarried Ellis Gregory in 1956. The family relocated from Michigan to San Clemente, Calif. Rusty spent most of his youth surfing and playing on the beach. He lived in Steamboat Springs, Colo., for a short time and worked on a ranch, before joining the family again when they moved to Farmington.
Rusty served in the U.S. Army and was a Buck Sergeant stationed in Panama, during the Vietnam Conflict. After the service he attended NMSU and met his first wife, Carla Sue Wright, while they were taking acting classes. They were married in 1972, and moved to Lowry Camp, where Rusty worked for El Paso Natural Gas Company. He move back to Farmington, and got into glass work. He worked for various glass companies around town, before he started his own glass business in the early 80s.
Rusty loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was an avid outdoorsmen and he loved to go rafting, skiing, four-wheeling, fishing, hiking and especially camping. He was always planning his next adventure. He loved to admire nature and wildlife and had a childlike wonder about the world around him.
Rusty was a major gamer. He was very good at Scrabble, and usually beat his family and friends. He also loved to play card games and any other games you challenged him to. Rusty loved to build Lego sets and had a Lego city in his shop.
Rusty was a jack-of-all-trades. He spent many years in the commercial/residential/auto glass industry, but he also worked in the oilfield, taught math at San Juan College, and worked at various bowling alleys in his youth.
