Russell Dale Hoyt "Red", 78, of Aztec, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 in Durango, CO. He was born to Wesley Clayton and Eunice Irene Hoyt on March 13, 1939 in Gallup, NM. Russell graduated from Aztec High School in 1957. He then married Oma Lee O'Daniel in 1959. Russell worked for EPNG for 37 years along with owning a successful meat processing business "Hoyts Processing" in Flora Vista. He and Oma raised 3 children teaching them a strong work ethic and family values. Russell always made sure no one got bored there was always work to do in order to make life better for others. He found great joy in hunting and fishing. He caught the biggest catfish at Navajo Lake (Just ask the Game Warden)! Russell never met a stranger, he helped guide many young lives and never missed an opportunity to teach a valuable lesson. He was known as the "BOSS." They broke the mold when our Dad was made, he was a Man of Gold. Russell loved to garden and share the fruits of his labor with the town of Aztec. If you ever received a box of his veggies consider yourself special. Russell left a family legacy and touched every life that crossed his path. He will be missed by many. Russell was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley Hoyt and Eunice Steele; brother, Dub Hoyt; sisters, Alice Ulrich and Arbella Mora. Russell is survived by his wife, Oma Lee Hoyt; son, Randy Hoyt; daughters, Patrica (Eric) Martin and Glena (Doug) Moore; sisters, Cynde (George) Davidson, Phylliss (Fred) Laureta, Christy (Earl) McQuity and Genevieve Hoyt; grandchildren, Jeanett Hockenhull, Aetie Hoyt, Ashley (Ryan) Bates, Erica (Chris) Allen, Janna (Dallas) Martin, Johny Moore, L Cpl. Luke Moore, Sarah Moore and Helen Moore; great-grandchildren, Blade Hockenhull, Corbin Hoyt and Robbie Bates. Graveside services will be Monday, June 5, 2017 at the Flora Vista Community Cemetery, in Flora Vista. Ric McCuller will be officiating the services. Pallbearers will be Jeanett Hockenhull, Artie Hoyt, Ashley Bates, Erica Allen, Johny Moore, L Cpl Luke Moore, Sarah Moore and Helen Moore. A potluck/celebration will take place immediately following the service at the home of Doug and Glena Moore 55 RD 3535 Flora Vista, NM.
