Rufina Jaramillo

Rufina (Rufie/Ruth) Jaramillo, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend passed away at 3:10 p.m. on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at the age of 89 from cancer.  A long-time resident of Bloomfield, NM, Rufina was born on September 20, 1931 and raised in San Luis, NM.

Rufina Jaramillo was a homemaker who raised seven children. Once the youngest was school age she began working for the Bloomfield school system as a food attendant/cook for 22 years.  She loved serving the children their noon-day meals and her co-workers became good friends.

Most important to Rufina was her religious faith; she was a devout Catholic and she is now with her Savior, Jesus Christ, as well as her grandparents Lucaria and Telesfor Lovato, and Victoriana and Crespin Jaramillo; her parents Maclovia and Aparcio Lovato; her brothers, Isa, Crespin, and  Telesfor Lovato; her sisters, Tila Martinez, Fabiola Chavez, Gregorita Dominguez, Christina Garcia, and Victoriana Lovato; her sons Arsenio (Archie) and Joseph Jaramillo; her grandchildren, Tommy and Lucas Jaramillo.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Arsenio Jaramillo; her daughters, Edwina Jaramillo, Beatrice Benavidez (Orlando), and Evelyn Cordova (Jerry); her sons, Freddy Jaramillo (Becki) and Mike Jaramillo; her treasured grandchildren, Valarie, Archie, and Amanda Jaramillo, Gina Vigil (Damian), Bryan Jaramillo (Brooke), Aimee Jaramillo-Lambert (Miles), Amber Orosco (Orlando), Melodie Roach (Matt), Michael (Christin) and Sebastian Jaramillo, Adam and Erika Benavidez, Sylvia Velarde (Jose), Jesse Cordova, Joseph Thomas (JT) Cordova, Michelle and Gil Valdez (Tasha); her great-grandchildren, Alaina and Jordan Jaramillo, Ariana Armenta, Joshua and Kyle Vigil, Jaiden, Ava, Olivia, Gavin, and Levi Jaramillo, Alice and Evan Lambert, David and Dean Orosco, Abigail Roach, and Bryanna, Luke, Isaac, and Kacee Velarde, Nathaniel and Noah Benavidez; and many loved nieces and nephews.

Rufina will be lovingly remembered as a gentle, compassionate, sensitive, generous, warm, shy, playful, helpful, self-sacrificing woman.  She and her sisters, lovingly teased as the “Golden Girls”, were known for their infectious laughter and loving sisterhood.  With her death the Lovato Golden Girls will be singing and laughing together in heaven with the Lord.

Services and celebration of Rufina’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 307 N. Church St., Bloomfield, NM as follows:  Viewing -  10:00 a.m.; Rosary – 11:00 a.m.; Mass – 12:00 p.m.; Graveside Service – following mass at St. Mary’s Church Cemetery, 51-61 Rd. 4900, Bloomfield; Reception – following graveside service at St. Mary’s Parish Hall.  Fr. Akano encourages masking during mass.  During the reception, please also be considerate of the unvaccinated and immune compromised.
