Services for Ruby A. Halona, 95, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013. The Revs. Dale Jameson, OFM and Pio O'Connor, OFM will officiate. Burial will follow in the Halona Family Plot in Tohatchi. Visitation will be 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at St. Mary Mission in Tohatchi. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11 2013, at St. Mary Mission.
Halona died Oct. 8, 2013, in Tohatchi. She was born on Feb. 12, 1918, in Springstead into the Bitter Water People Clan for the Zuni People Clan.
Halona attended Tohatchi Boarding School and Ganado Mission. She earned a culinary arts certificate and was employed 40 years as a school cook in the Tohatchi schools.
Survivors include her husband Wilson Halona, of Tohatchi; sons Lawrence Manuelito, of Tempe, Ariz., Pernell Halona of Tohatchi, Cornell Halona, of Farmington, and Wade Halona, of Farmington; daughters Kathleen Barton, of Gallup, and Delia Halona, of Albuquerque; brothers Ernest Becenti and Harrison Kasuse, both of Churchrock; sisters Sadie Benally, Lucy Ben, Betty Ben, Lorraine Begay, Elouise Benally and Dorothy King, all of Churchrock; 20 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by Kendall Barton, Halver Halona, Randy Halone.
Pallbearers will be Kenton Halona, Patrick Halona, Kyle Barton, Randy Halona, Garrett Halona and Derrick Halona.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Tohatchi High School Cafeteria after services.
Cope Memorial Chapel of Gallup, NM is entrusted with arrangements.
