Roy James Ellis Jr., of Aztec passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2013 in Mancos, Colo.
He was born Jan. 16, 1925 in Tucumcari, to Roy James Sr. and C. Ophelia Ellis.
After graduating from Albuquerque High School in 1943, Roy entered the U.S. Navy serving in World War II as an Electrician's Mate Third Class on both the USS Uhlmann and USS Twining. He met Mildred Zollars at a USO dance in Minneapolis, Minn. and they were married on Jan. 27, 1946 spending most of their life in New Mexico. Roy retired from Graves Butane in 1987 and he and Millie enjoyed their golden years traveling and spending time with family. Pops or Gramps, as he was affectionately called, was a quiet, gentle man and was much loved by his family. He will be greatly missed.
Roy is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mildred Zollars Ellis; daughters, Corrine (Orlando) Estrada and Nancy (Allen) Roe; his sister, Mable (Glenn) Harry; grandchildren, Melissa (Michael) Pavey, Nathan (Laura) Evans, Eileen (Luke) Longacre, Jaime (Hadda) Estrada, Matthew Roe, and Mechel (Aaron) Watts, and; great-grandchildren, Maddisson and Brian Pavey, J.T., Ethan and Elaine Evans, Liam Longacre, Noah and Kamil Estrada, Nathan and Bradley Roe, and Austin and Quiahna Otero, Draven and Eli Watts; niece, Susan (Mike) Atencio and nephews, Joey (Shelley) and Robert (Malena) Harry.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ophelia Ellis.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Roy's name to the charity of your choice.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service for Roy will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, at First United Methodist Church, 1105 N. First St. in Bloomfield, with Reverend Kathy Potter officiating.
Interment will be in the Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N. Guadalupe St. in Santa Fe.
Roy's care is entrusted to Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St. in Farmington, 505-325-8688.
