Roman Martinez, 89, of Bloomfield, dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and friend, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2015, surrounded by the love of his family.
He is will be missed dearly by his loving wife of 69 years, Mary Chacon Martinez, his half brother Tony Martinez; his sons Herman and wife Naomi Martinez, and Gilbert and wife Guadalupe Martinez; grandchildren Roman and wife Yvette Martinez, Gloria and husband Jacopo Lo Schiavo, Anna and husband Paul Benavidez, Nick and wife Shannon Martinez, Miguel and wife Juanita Martinez and Demetrio Martinez; great grandchildren, Mercedes Martinez, Alexius Martinez, Miguel Martinez, Nicholaus Martinez, Isaiah Martinez, Roman Martinez, Anthony Martinez, Paul Benavidez, Michael Benavidez, and Alexis Benavidez.
Roman is preceded in death by his grandparents Nicholaus and Isabel Martinez, parents Jose Emijirio and Clorinda Martinez, brother Ilberto Joe Martinez and half siblings Gloria Lopez, Minerva Vallon and Gilberto Martinez.
He served in the Vancouver Shipyard during World War II and worked for El Paso Natural Gas Company, for over 30 years. He was a man known for his work ethic, honesty and peaceful nature. A deeply committed family man, he and his wife were inseparable, and one of his greatest joys was to pass down to the new generations his expertise and passion for hunting, fishing and horses.
He built unforgettable memories full of love and dedication, that later inspired his wife and family in the demanding yet rewarding task of his care during the time of the disease that afflicted the last years of life.
The rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, and the funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 14, both at St. Mary's in Bloomfield.
Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
A reception will follow at St. Mary's Parish Hall in Bloomfield.
