Robert Arsenio Velasquez, 76, of Farmington, joined his wife and our heavenly Father on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016. He was born on June 22, 1939, in Del Norte, Colo., to Lillian and Arthur Velasquez.
Robert grew up in Colorado with his siblings in which they shared many fond and special memories. He then met the love of his life Cora, and they married in 1959, and began their journey starting their own family. Robert started out as a heavy equipment operator in Del Norte, then moved his family to Farmington, where he began his career in the oilfield building locations. Robert enjoyed many hobbies such as carpentry, fishing and playing his guitar. One would say, "He was a jack of all trades". He loved having family gatherings with all his children and numerous grandchildren. Robert and his homemade fudge will be missed dearly by all his family and friends.
Robert is preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Cora Atencio Velasquez; his parents, Arthur and Lillian Velasquez; sister, Josephine, grandparents; and granddaughter, Kadence.
Robert is survived by his sons, Chris (Eleanor) Velasquez, Art (Amanda) Velasquez, and Michael (Melodee) Velasquez. Daughters, Lisa (Tony) Marez, Melissa (Larry) Archer, and Roberta (Jeremy) Brannon; brothers, Anthony (Judy) Velasquez and Joe (Rosalyn) Velasquez; sisters, Marjorie Gillespi, Bette (Gilbert) Arellano, Helen (Fred) Medina, Priscilla (Lorenzo) Martinez, Vera (Tony) Sisneros and Dorothy Rivera. He also leaves behind his precious 20 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, whom all adored him.
Pallbearers are Chris Velasquez, Art Velasquez (Adam Velasquez), Mike Velasquez, Tony Marez, Larry Archer and Jack Moore.
Honorary Pallbearers are all of his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great granddaughter Khloe.
Rosery will be recited at 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 414 N. Allen Ave. in Farmington, with a Mass to follow at 10 a.m. with Father Tim Farrell as celebrant. Burial will follow Mass in Greenlawn Cemetery, 1606 N Dustin Ave. in Farmington. A reception will be at Sacred Heart Parish Center after burial.
