Robert Cecil Rutledge Sr

September 15, 1927 — October 5, 2015

Robert C. Rutledge Sr., 88, passed away quietly in the company of his family on Monday, Oct. 5, 2015. He was born Sept. 15, 1927, in High Point, N.C., to Ralph Curtis Rutledge and Anne Mae Fowler.

Robert entered the U.S. Navy and the Fleet Marines on Dec. 12, 1944. After serving two years, he returned to civilian life only to reenlist in the U.S. Air Force in 1950, and retired as a Master Sergeant in 1975. He was a patriot and a veteran of both Korea and Vietnam Wars; and bore the scars silently as most veterans do. Robert traveled the world extensively while in the military but loved New Mexico. He lived in Alamogordo, Caballo, Las Cruces and Aztec, where he positively impacted more people than we could possibly list.

Robert was proud of his children, Lynda Medvetz, Robert Jr., Robin Dellinger, Richard, Monty, and Michelle Rhoads. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren beyond measure and bragged about them to anyone that would listen. He chose to be cremated and will be interred in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., in the spring.

The family of Robert Rutledge wishes to thank the staff at San Juan Regional Medical Center, The Bridge at Farmington, Bee Hive Homes, Good Samaritan at Four Corners, and Aztec Restaurant for the loving kindness they showed our father.

Robert's care is entrusted to Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St. in Farmington , 505-325-8688.
