Robert Harrell "Bob" Jennings, 93, of La Plata, died Saturday, Sept. 28 at his home. He was born Feb. 17, 1920, at Throckmorton, Texas. His was the youngest of eleven children born to Will and Annie (Henry) Jennings.Bob was raised in Maryneal, Texas, on a livestock farm and graduated from Highland High school in 1939. He attended Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas, where he studied business. He returned to his real love which was working ranches in both Big Lake and Water Valley, Texas. In 1946, he moved to Las Vegas to run a ranch for his Texas employer. In 1947, he met Dorothy Ann Odom, whose family has also moved from Texas to Las Vegas, to ranch. On October 30, 1948, they married at the First Methodist Church in Las Vegas. Their Family grew to include Camille in 1950 and Helen in 1953.In 1956, the family moved to Farmington. In Farmington, they purchased property and established a trailer park. After building the trailer park, Bob started a dirt construction business, which he ran for 25 years until retirement. The Jennings family moved to La Plata in 1969 and purchased an 80 acre farm where they raised Hereford Cattle and Suffolk sheep. Bob served on the La Plata Conservancy District for 33 years and ran the McDermott Ditch for most of 40 years. He was President and member of the San Juan County Fair Board. He served as a ringmaster for the junior Livestock Sale for many years. Bob was an active supporter of the 4-H Programs. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Farmington and Lifetime Member of the Elks Lodge.Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, his parents and all of his siblings. He is survived by his two daughters, Camille (Waylon) Waller, Las Cruces, and Helen (Bill) Harris, La Plata. Bob has three grandsons, Rob (TonJia) Harris, Denver, Colo., Ty (Katie) Harris, Belen, and Will (Melanie) Waller, Las Cruces. He has four great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter.A celebration of Bob's life will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at the First United Methodist Church, 808 Monterey Ave., in Farmington. Pallbearers are Will Waller, Rob Harris, Ty Harris, Mike Harris, Ron Baird and John Dee Read. Honorary Pallbearers are J.T. Smith, Maxine Goff, Liz Hayes, Stan Harris, Quail Read, Brooks Read, Taylor Bob Read, Randy Peck, Ben Hazelwood, Richard Blanchette, The Montoya Brothers and his many friends at La Plata.Thank you to Dr. James Spence, Dr. Charles Wilkins, and Dr. Alan McCulloch for their care of Bob over many years. Thanks to Liz Hayes, Bob's dear friend, and part-time care giver.
