Robert Young Ferguson, 88, passed away peacefully November 13, 2022 while surrounded by family at his home. He was born May 4, 1934 in Dallas Texas, the
only son of Ralph Y. and Marion (Gerst) Ferguson.
Bob spent his childhood in Brownfield Texas and after graduating from the Brownfield High School class of 52 moved to Farmington, New Mexico to begin a career in the oil field industry. He met and married the love of his life, Nedra Claire Patterson and raised four children in the Farmington area. After receiving a promotion with Schaeffer Oil Tool company in 1969 they moved to Denver, Colorado. Another promotion lead the family to Houston, Texas where he and Nedra lived for 38 years. In Houston Bob founded Control Flow Inc, an oil field equipment company specializing in blow out prevention technology. After he retired he made Nedra’s dream of returning to Farmington a reality. He built her dream home which she adored until an unexpected sickness took her life in 2012. Bob began his 8 year fight with Alzheimer’s in 2014.
He believed in old fashioned principles like hard work, honesty and loyalty, and was completely dedicated to his wife, children, grand and great grandchildren and countless friends. Bob loved an immaculate yard and spotlessly clean cars. He loved to fish, carve beautiful wood ducks, build and drive hot rods, and his faithful dog Abby who he claims saved his life after Nedra’s death. He was proud of the accomplishments of his children and adored and enjoyed spoiling his 15 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren. His legacy to his family was his passion to help others, particularly with financial assistance. His soft and tender heart lead him to bless many lives. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and strived to make the world a kinder and more beautiful place.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Betty Ann and wife Nedra. He is survived by his children Debra Christofferson (Logan Utah), Bob Ferguson Jr ( Austin, Texas), Rebecca Ferguson (Farmington, New Mexico), and Susan Sutherland (Mesa, Arizona), with 15 brilliant grandchildren and 44 amazing great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will held at 10 am on November 19, 2022 at the Knudsen Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, located at 1310 E. 25th Street in Farmington with interment in the Greenlawn cemetery. The family would like to invite those who wish to remember Bob and his generosity to make contributions to the Humanitarian Aid Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The family is grateful to Brewer Lee & Larkin Funeral Home in Farmington, New Mexico as well as the kind staff of Basin Home and Health Hospice.
