Robert Arthur "Bob" Camp
Dec. 21, 2015
Robert Arthur "Bob" Camp, 65, passed away on the evening of Monday, Dec. 21, 2015, the Winter Solstice, near his home in Flora Vista.
Bob was the son of Dr. Robert B. Camp, Loveland, Colo., optometrist, and Mildred E. Camp, Home and Family editor for many years at the Loveland Reporter Herald.
Bob grew up and spent most of his life in Colorado. He became an excellent skier, and loved playing golf. He was a fisherman who tied his own flies. He loved riding racing bikes, and was also an excellent vegetarian cook.
But really it was the music that held it all together. He grew up with it. It was in his blood. Bob Camp was a fine natural musician who could find the melody and chords by ear on piano, guitar, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, dobro, frailed banjo, and pedal steel guitar. He sang harmony and lead vocals in a number of bands with his first wife Sandy, including "Hop and Barley," The Rusty Horseshoe Band," and "Kid Curry." Later he traveled to Europe and Japan with the "Sawmill Creek Band", and played around the western U.S. with "Rattlesnake Shake" and "The Darn Thirsty Cowboys."
Bob loved to laugh, a talent he inherited from both sides of his family. This finely-tuned (some might say whacky) sense of humor ran through everyone and everything around him. He loved making innocent mischief. At the same time, he was a tender-hearted father and grandfather, and no matter what he did or didn't do in his life, everybody loved him. That's just who he was. He was an animal lover all his life, starting with pet salamanders in his childhood. Bob Camp was gentle and kind, a man of honor and integrity who earned the title "Honest Bob" according to close friends. He was truly one of a kind and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Robert B. and Mildred E. Camp; and his second wife Cathleen Camp. Bob is survived by his daughter, Tammy Bronson, her husband, Nate Bronson, and his grandchildren, Chase and Annie of Durango; his former wife, Sandy Camp, also of Durango; his brother Bill Tunnicliff and wife, Mary of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and his sister, Jan Garrett and her husband, JD Martin who live in Basalt, Colo. Close cousins include Gary and Mary Camp of Loveland, and Beverly Wirtz also of Loveland.
The immediate family will conduct a private memorial. In lieu of flowers, they request that you simply be helpful to some kid who wants to create a life in music. It will make a difference to all.
