Richard Dean Duncan, 85, our strong and precious dad, grandpa, uncle and friend, was called home on Sunday, September 15, 2013. He was born January 10, 1928, in Del Norte, Colorado and graduated from Del Norte High School in 1946. Dean entered the U.S. Air Force in April of 1948 and served his country until June of 1954. He was in Germany during Berlin Airlift in the control towers. Dean married Barbara Meadows in 1955 and had four children; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Dean was a surveyor for the Colorado Department of Highways in Durango, Colorado for 35 years. He enjoyed family and friends and had many hobbies, such as hunting, fishing, boating, golf and dancing. He loved the big bands, Harry James and western movies. Dean was a member of the J.C.'s and the Elks. Dean was preceded in death by his parents, John S. and Maude H. Duncan; brothers, Floyd and Keith Duncan; and his sister, Irene Hutchinson. He is survived by his son, Rodger D. (Vicky) Duncan, of Aztec; daughters, Cheryl L. Jacobs, of Farmington, Dean M. Duncan, of Aztec, and Lori M. Fitzpatrick, of Boise, Idaho; sister-in-law, Betty Trip, of Del Norte, Colorado; nine grandchildren, Dustin Jacobs, Joshua Duncan, Stacie Fitzpatrick, Adrian (Carah) Bishop, Austin Jacobs, Zachary Fitzpatrick, Zebadiah Prescott, Caleb Prescott and Elijah Duncan; four great- grandchildren, Elijah, Riley, Arabella and Zayne; as well as several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be Saturday, September 28, in Del Norte, Colorado. Dean's care is entrusted to Alternative Choice, 804 N. Dustin Ave.in Farmington, 505-325-9611.
