Ralph Douglas Sharer, 81, died Monday, August 25, 2014, at his home in Farmington. He was born September 29, 1932, in Roswell to James Byron Sharer and Eva Essie (Adcock) Sharer. He grew up in Roswell, except for the time his father served in the Army during WWII when he lived in Ridgeland, Mississippi. He graduated from Roswell High School in 1951. He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1951, serving in Japan during the Korean War.
While working at the US Embassy in Vientiane, Laos, he met his future wife Helen McNamara. They were married August 30, 1958, in Washington, DC. They made their home in Albuquerque. They moved to Farmington in 1962, then back to Albuquerque for five years, returning to Farmington in 1972, where they wanted to rear their children. Ralph owned the Credit Bureau of Farmington.
He is survived by his wife, Helen of the family home; sons, William and wife, Beth of Farmington, Barry of Bloomfield, Donald and wife, Kerry of Clovis; daughter, Kathleen of Farmington; grandchildren, Amanda Yates and husband, Michael, Sean Sharer and wife, Jessica, all of Farmington, and Brigid and Anthony Sharer of Clovis; great grandchildren, William, Patrick, Samuel, Elizabeth, and James Yates of Farmington.
A viewing will be held from 5:30-7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St., in Farmington. A rosary will follow at 7:00 pm also at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 2100 E. 20th St., in Farmington, with Father Frank Chacon as celebrant. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 6917 E. Main St., in Farmington.
