Phyllis R. (Monroe) Pierce

August 16, 1933 — June 14, 2013

Phyllis Ray (Monroe) Pierce, 79, of Bloomfield passed away Friday, June 14, 2013 at the Beehive Homes of Farmington. Phyllis was born Aug. 16, 1933 in Lubbock, Texas, the daughter of Helen Allen and Chester Monroe. Phyllis devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother left us after a lengthy illness early Friday morning. She was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan and flew her flag proudly on game day. She traveled extensively with her husband Slim and was thrilled to see the sight and sounds of Europe, Northern Africa, and all over the United States of which she loved, along with their family. Phyllis loved the outdoors and could bait a hook and water-ski with the best of them. She loved to bowl, was a life long voracious reader and crossword puzzler. We are lucky enough to be left with a few of the oil painting that are now family treasures. Phyllis worked tirelessly for many years insuring there would be educational opportunities and safe places for developmentally disable people to have. She enjoyed involvement in several family businesses. Mom, Granny, we will miss you, but know you are at peace and happy to be reunited with Dad and family. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents Helen and Chester Monroe; husband, Jearl (Slim) Pierce and her son, Jearl; daughters, Cheryl and Connie and sister, Linda Zunigha. She leaves behind her daughter Karla Evans of the family home in Bloomfield; sisters Joan Hobbs and three loving sisters-in-law; two grandchildren Joshua Evans and wife Christina and Brian Pierce; three great-granddaughters Shantell, Danika and Ellia and many friends she considered her family. Cremation will take place and graveside services will 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, in Memory Gardens Cemetery, 6917 East Main St. in Farmington with Craig Montroy officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to ARC Thriftown in lieu of flowers. Phyllis' care is entrusted to Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St. in Farmington, 505-325-8688.
