Our beloved mother, Petra Pena, passed away peacefully on July 26th, 2023, in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. She was just two days shy of her 93rd birthday. Petra was born on July 28, 1930, in Ruidosa, Texas. Her parents were Felis (Ulate) Espinoza and Maria Luz Madrid.
Petra was a loving and dedicated wife to Cesareo Bueno Pena, who preceded her in death in 2018. Petra and Cesareo were married in Lovington, New Mexico, on April 28th, 1951. Together they raised six children and suffered the loss of one child at birth. As a mother, Petra worked hard to raise and support her family. She worked as a professional housekeeper and later assisted her husband Cesareo with bookkeeping and payroll for the cement construction business they owned together in Grand Junction, Colorado. In 2004, Cesareo and Petra moved from Grand Junction to Farmington, New Mexico, where they both enjoyed a quiet retirement.
Petra was a long-time parishioner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bloomfield, New Mexico, and had great faith in her Lord. Petra will be remembered as a hardworking and devoted wife and mother who was endlessly kind, gracious, and hospitable to everyone she met, no matter where she met them.
Petra was incredibly proud of her grandchildren and took particular delight in visits from her great-grandchildren.
Petra was preceded in death by her loving husband, Cesareo, and her daughter Olga Kinney. Surviving children are Lucio Pena (Trina), Mike Pena (Rena), Chris Pena, Beatrice Reynolds (Cliff), and Rosa Coppock (Bill).
