Paul Wayne Pickard
July 29, 1931 - May 9, 2014
Paul Wayne Pickard, 82, of Kirtland, passed peacefully at home, in Kirtland, with family on Friday, May 9, 2014. He was born on July 29, 1931 to Wayne A. and Lora Himstreet Pickard in Washington Township, Warren County, Iowa.
He graduated from high school in Safford, AZ, and after Paul's military service in the US Army, serving in Trieste, Italy, he married the love of his life, Wilma Jean, who he met in Safford in high school. They raised their family in New Mexico. He was a hard working, heavy equipment operator working gas pipeline construction most of his life, with travels out of state often for his line of work. There was no terrain that he couldn't handle, and loved being behind the wheel of heavy equipment machinery. After retirement, Paul enjoyed his home life with his goats and gardens, with Wilma Jean, his kids and grandkids. His life on earth was full. Paul was a gentle, soft spoken, humble, hard working and kind man, and loved by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beautiful wife Wilma Jean.
Paul is survived by his daughter Paula Jane (Sheldon) Berkun; two sons, William Wayne Pickard of Aztec, and Creston Turner Pickard of Holdenville, OK; four grandchildren; Dawn, Tyrel, Cody and Brandi; seven great grandchildren; his brother, Fred Pickard of Phoenix, AZ and nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Basin Home Health and Hospice for their loving care and assistance.
