Born in Velva, North Dakota and raised on a farm there, Paul Willard Fix was the son of Jordan Fix (of Tulcea, Rumania) and Rupheno Reed (North Dakota). He was one of four children, and moved to Longview, Washington with his parents and three siblings, Calvin, Joe, and Ruth, at the age of 13. During World War II, while serving in the U.S. Navy, he met and married Mary Louise Boyer of Altadena, California. Along with his wife Mary, he raised two children, Judith and David, in Southern California, Hawaii, and Colorado. He started a successful cabinet-making business, Custom Fixtures, in Southern California, and later moved to Hawaii, where he pursued a building career on the islands of Oahu, Maui, and Hawaii. He became a wood sculptor, specializing in rare Hawaiian woods that he collected during back-country trips, where he starred in a Hawaiian "western" movie. He also enjoyed flying light aircraft and sailplanes. Due to his wife's ill health, he moved his family to the mainland U.S., where he continued building in Colorado. After Mary's passing, he married Geraldine Morehouse of Riverside, California, and raised four children with her: Bradley, Kevin, Darren, and Sheri. They lived and worked in Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico, where he developed and manufactured panels for energy-efficient homes that were affordable to those in need in such far-flung destinations as Haiti. Always open to new ideas and opportunities, he also worked in the telecommunications and oil industries. In February of 2016, he celebrated his 90th birthday surrounded by family and honored at a retrospective showing of his wood sculptures in Farmington, New Mexico. After a series of falls and surgeries, he entered the Albuquerque VA hospital for rehabilitation where he worked doggedly to restore his strength so that he could return home to be with his wife and family. On December 6, he passed away peacefully at his son Darren's home in Aztec, New Mexico, with his family by his side. He will be remembered by his family as a loving husband and father. He leaves them a legacy of faith, persistence, determination, and strength. He kept his sense of humor and positive attitude until the end, endearing himself to all those who cared for him. He is survived by his wife Geraldine, his sister Ruth McCann, his children Judith Chun, Bradley Morehouse, Kevin Morehouse, Darren Morehouse, Sheri Kehr, 9 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren (plus one on the way). Paul's care is entrusted to Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 East Ute St., Farmington,
(505) 325-8688.
