Paul Lynn Abbott

October 21, 1932 — August 7, 2017

Paul Lynn Abbott, 84, of Farmington, New Mexico, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Monday, August 7, 2017. He was born on October 21, 1932 in Smackover, Arkansas to Bertha Mae Zylks and John Paul Abbott. Lynn was preceded in death by his mother, father, step father, and one grandchild. He is survived by his wife Verla Abbott, his daughter Verlynn Smith, son Bob Abbott (wife Lynne), Ray Abbott (wife Dorothy), Lynda Gammon, Shelly Abbott, and Patti Elliott (husband Glen) as well as 17 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Sue Brackman and his brother, Ralph Abbott (wife Kathy). Lynn lived in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas before moving to Farmington in 1951. He met his wife, Verla the year he moved to Farmington. They were married in the Mesa Arizona Temple on February 1, 1952. He worked with his Father-in-law, William Tanner, building houses. He also worked for Shell Oil Company, Construction Supply, Stradling Construction, and then taught carpentry at San Juan College for twenty years where he retired in 1999. He was a hard worker and skilled construction worker. He taught his skills to many students over the years. Lynn held numerous church callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He loved the gospel and served his callings with devotion. He visited many of the temples with Verla where ever they traveled. He loved baseball and coached both of his sons for several years. He also was a staunch Dallas Cowboy fan. He rarely missed watching a game until he could no longer see. He enjoyed watching all sports. He touched the lives of all of those he came in contact with, including those who cared for him the last several years. A special thanks to the Life Care Center staff, especially the nurses and CNA's who took special care of our husband/dad. He had the best sense of humor and always made those around him laugh. He was the best Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather. He is greatly loved and will be missed by all.
