Patricia Smothers Jordan, 75, of Farmington passed from this life on Saturday, December 14, 2013 into the next life at God's pleasure and under the loving and gentle care of her children and our extended family at the Gingerich Home for the Elderly. Pat was born in Pampa, Texas on December 20, 1937 to Q.N. and Gladys Parker, a gentle bear of a Rough Neck, and a devoted Christian women. Her family moved across Texas, Oklahoma, and Colorado following work in the oil and gas fields, and early in her life settled in Farmington. As a young girl of 15, Pat met and married Floyd Smothers and she is survived by their 3 children, Larry (Katherine) Smothers, Garry (Marie) Smothers, and Paula Smothers. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jim Parker, and her first husband Floyd Smothers. She married a second time to Roy Jordan, a wonderful man who provided her much happiness and love for many years and who has passed away. We are certain she will be met at heaven's gate with a hug and a kiss by her granddaughter Trish Jacquez. Pat leaves behind her brother Emmitt Curtis, sisters Irene Harland and Linda Tuttle, numerous nephews and nieces, 6 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren with 3 more on the way within 6 months. Pat is probably best known for successfully owning and operating "Pat's Thrift Shop" for over 44 years. She retired 2 years ago but devoted much of her life to helping customers find a bargain and stretch a penny. She treated everyone who walked into her shop as family, and gave away as much merchandise as she sold over the years. Pat also loved to collect Depression Era glass, play penny video poker, and considered her dog and cats as her children.
Cremation has taken place and her funeral will be delayed for the gathering of the Smothers, Jacquez, Parker, and Sussex clans from Abu Dhabi, Maryland, Virginia, Texas, California, and New Mexico. We intend to hold a memorial service to celebrate Pat's life on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home Chapel, 103 East Ute St. in Farmington. Pat requested before her death that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to the Farmington Animal Shelter, 100 N. Browning Parkway, Farmington, NM 87402 The family wishes to thank the Gingerich Home for the Elderly for their special care of our Mom. Pat's services are entrusted to Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, (505) 325-8688.
