O.T. Steed, 93, Retired Brick Layer and Stone Mason was born on Feb. 8, 1920 in Yantis, Texas and had been a resident of Aztec since 1977 moving there from Colorado, where he had lived since enlisting in the U.S. Army at Fort Carson in 1942. He passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2013 in Farmington. "Steed," as most knew him was brick layer and stone mason by trade, specializing in fireplaces. Many homes in San Juan County and CO are adorned with the beautiful work of his hands. Steed married the love of his life, Betty Ruth Branch in 1943. Together they raised seven children and as a family man, adored every minute spent them and his grandkids. He was an avid fisherman and a 'horse-trader,' as a well-known regular at the flea market. He was a true gentleman and a man of his word. Though known for laying foundations of brick and stone, he was more importantly known as the foundation of love and strength for our family. Steed is survived by his wife, Betty, of 69 years; daughter, June Farson of Aurora, Colo.; daughter, Jackie (Don) Weber of LaSalle, Colo.; son, Denny (Linda) Steed of Yucaipa, Calif.; daughter, JoLyn (Gary) Adams of Jacksonville, Fla.; daughter Jill Lau of Aurora, Colo.; daughter, Teddi Webb of Aztec; son, Darrin (Kelly) Steed of Aztec; 22 grandkids; 43 great-grandkids and seven great-great-grandkids. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 105 E. Ute St. in Farmington.
