Orval Merle Mclaughin

June 10, 1925 — October 4, 2013

Orval "Dobber" Merle McLaughlin, 88, a resident of Farmington since 1954 passed away Friday, October 4, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. Dobber was born June 10, 1925 in Ripley, Oklahoma the son of Orval Andrew McLaughlin and Ruby Betz McLaughlin. Dobber served our country in the US Navy in WWII and also served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Farmington Rotary Club and served as a mason. Dobber was a also a member of the San Juan Country Club and served as president and board member. He owned and operated Oil and Gas Equipment Corporation. Dobber enjoyed golf, fishing, and duck hunting. He will be greatly missed.
He leaves behind his wife Olivia "Pauline" McLauglin; three children Otto Q. McLaughlin (deceased), Orval "Dean" McLaughlin and wife Becky, and Oleta Degner and husband Mike; 7 grandchildren Jimmy Maxwell, Kyle McLaughlin, Kymbr Mordicke, Kytt Mclaughlin, Levi Degner, Drew Degner and Jory Walker; 13 great-grandchildren Layne McLaughlin, Kade Hill, Lily Hill, Kaitlyn Degner, Chloe Degner, Gracie Degner, Andrew Degner, Landon Degner Laci Degner, Logan Walker, Jaycee Walker, Colby Maxwell and Casey Maxwell. Dobber was preceded in death by his parents and his son Otto Q. McLaughlin. Visitation is Tuesday, October 8th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 East Ute St. in Farmington. Funeral services for Dobber are Wednesday, October 9th at 10:30 a.m. at the Northside Church of Christ, 401 W. 20th Str. In Farmington with Gene Chapin officiating. Dobber will then be laid to rest at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 6917 East Main St. in Farmington Pallbearers are Randy Jordan, Tom Lewis, Tory Wiedmeyer Olson, Mike Lam, Dan Cordova and Fabian Sanchez. Honorary pallbearers are Ron Cochran, Jim West, Bob Kacdura, Jack Erwin, Tom Hill, Benton DeWees and Smokey Lions.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Dobber's name to Four Corners' Foundation, PO Box 5160, Farmington, NM 87499 . Dobber's arrangements are entrusted to Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 East Ute St. (505) 325-8688.
