Nola "Jean" Rogers
June 17, 1928 - January 27, 2016
Nola Jean Rogers, 87, formerly of Farmington, entered into rest on Wednesday, January 27, 2016. She had resided at Cedar Ridge in Farmington for the last nine months as the result of a series of debilitating strokes.
Jean was born in Coolidge, Kansas to Harold and Verona Parsley on June 17, 1928. Nola Jean graduated from high school in 1946 in Syracuse, Kansas and married Keith Rogers shortly thereafter. She and Keith left Kansas for New Mexico in 1955, lived in Farmington for 8 years, relocated to the Chama area in 1964 and finally set down roots at their ranch in Rutheron, NM. Jean worked in Chama as a customer consultant for the Gas Company of New Mexico until her retirement in 1990.
After Keith's death in 1983, she entered a new phase in her life, selling the ranch in Rutheron and buying a home in Chama. She made a life without her beloved husband, travelling to Costa Rica, Hawaii and Scandinavia and taking a cruise to Alaska. She became Beta Sigma Phi's International Woman of the Year in 2002, a very prestigious honor (the third woman in New Mexico to ever receive it) which led to being recognized by the New Mexico House of Representatives. Jean also was honored in 2015 with a ceremony performed by her sorority sisters at Cedar Ridge for 50 years of Sorority membership.
Jean was passionate about bridge, solitaire, crocheting, her yard, hummingbirds and her Phi Beta Lambda sisters. She dearly loved watching her grandchildren and flowers grow and adding to her chicken collection.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Keith; her son, Ricky, her parents, Harold and Verona Parsley; her brother, Stanley Parsley, her sister, Janet Raney' her infant granddaughter, Carla Christine and her great-grandson, Robert.
Jean is survived by her daughters, Sheryl Ketron (Wally Chamblee); Tess Casados (Carlos); Shellie Domenici (Dominic); and adopted sons Steve Stevens, Mike Haley and Craig Ridout; grandchildren, Machele, Tony, William, Jayme, Jodie, Jasper, and Rici; 11 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Jean's life will be held at the Chama Community Church on Saturday, February 13th at 11:00 a.m. in Chama with a luncheon to follow at the Saint Patrick Hall also in Chama.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent in Nola Jean's memory to Cedar Ridge Inn, 800 Saguaro Trail, Farmington, NM 87401, in appreciation of the kind and compassionate care of our mother.
