Nickolas Granko, a.k.a., "Roundup" was born in Roundup Montana, July 28, 1934 and passed away June 26, 2015. 80 years of an amazing life.
Nick was the first child born in America to Nick and Lena Granko. Nick's father emigrated from Austria and Lena from Italy. Nick graduated in 1952 from Klein HS, Klein, Montana, and married Barbara in September that same year. They celebrated a 50th wedding anniversary before Barb's (the love of his life) death in 2003. Being from Montana and raised during the depression era, Nick was an excellent marksman and supplied meat for the family with minimal shots. At one time, Big Nick had the record catch for the largest German Brown trout at Navajo Lake, 10 lbs., 1 oz. Nick had a scholarship at Ft. Lewis College as a Fullback, but had to quit and work to support his family. Nick was fortunate to have strength and vitality well into his later years. Nick owned and operated the Standard "Y" Chevron Gas Station on West Main Street in Farmington for many years where he made many friends. Nick was an avid and formidable Poker player. Although he never was on the famous WSOP tournament, he mentioned he had loaned money to many well know names on the WSOP tournament. He had a multitude of stories and usually an unexpected humorous twist would leave you chuckling. Big Nick will truly be missed by many.
Nick was preceded in death by his mother and father; wife Barbara and a sister Bernice Zigler. Nick is survived by his sister Sandy McGee; his three children, Donna Granko; Deborah DeWees, and Nicholas Granko; 3 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren, and Tux the cat.
Cremation will take place and a memorial service is scheduled at 10 am, Thursday, July 2nd, 2015 at Brewer Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute Street, Farmington with Frank Smith a family friend officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make a monetary contribution to Charity or those less fortunate. May God bless you richly.
