On Tuesday, January 5, 2021, Myrtle Lolita Nelson, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away at the age of 82.
Myrtle was born January 25, 1938 in McPhee, CO to Calvin Smurr Compton and Myrtle Lucille Compton. She attended Farmington High school and subsequently raised her five children in Farmington, NM.
Myrtle loved her home and especially her yard. She prided herself in having one of the most extraordinary displays of flowers and plants in her yard each year. She combined that with her fondness for hummingbirds, of which she attracted hundreds each summer.
From one of her acquaintances- “Myrtle was one of the greatest persons I have ever known. Over 30 years ago she took us under her wing and treated us as family. From golf to fishing at the pond to goose hunting! Not once did we walk into that house that there weren’t beans with ham, hot corn bread and some sort of desert. Many many wonderful memories.”
Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents, and six brothers and two sisters, Eugene, Milton, Raymond, Wayne, Richard, Lowell (Buster), Genevieve Taylor and Gaylen Quinn. She is survived by two sisters, Louise (Tanner) Pratt and Jo Ellen Martin. She is also survived by her five children, Lynnell Nelson, Daniel Nelson Jr., Jack Nelson (Tammie), Craig Nelson (Kacie), and Natalie Nelson Tabet (James). Her sixteen grandchildren are Julie Blouin, Neil Benson, David Benson, Daniel Nelson III, Whitney Warren, William Nelson, Nickolas Nelson, Sammie Nelson, Courtney Nelson, Dani Davis, Riley Nelson, Jacob Nelson, Chaynee Tabet, Boone Tabet, Dixie Tabet, and Cody Tabet. She also leaves seven great grandchildren. She had countless nieces , nephews and cousins too.
She is certainly in a much better place now but will be missed greatly by all.
No services are planned at this time and cremation is scheduled to take place.
