Myron Clinton Taylor, 73, born September 29, 1940, in Kirtland, New Mexico, to Clinton McKay Taylor and Dixie Dustin Taylor. Myron's pioneer grandparents also lived in San Juan County. Myron passed from this life June 12, 2014, following a courageous battle with Muscular Dystrophy since starting at the age of 20.
Myron started school in Farmington and graduated from Farmington High School with the class of 1959. He then attended Brigham Young University and graduated in Business Management in 1965. During this time, he also served a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Northern States Mission.
After graduation, he returned to the First National Bank of Farmington, where he stayed for the next 32 years, retiring at the end of 1996. He worked in all areas of the bank, including bookkeeping, teller, consumer loans, auditor, and commercial loans, and finished as Senior Vice President and Investment Officer. He loved banking, the people he worked with, and his many customers. After retiring, he has served as a Director of the First National Bank and Wells Fargo Bank. In 1990, he was named the first "Employee of the Year". He attended a number of National Bank Investment seminars and in 1979, he attended the Graduated School of Bank Investments at the University of Illinois. He was on the committee and was chairman of the New Mexico Bankers Association Bank Investment and Trust conferences for several years.
Myron was always involved in his community and Church. He has been active in Civitans, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Farmington Parks and Recreation, and has been chairman and/or Treasurer of the March of Dimes, Farmington Museum, San Juan Regional Medical Center, San Juan Medical Foundation, Farmington Civic Center Foundation, Connelly Hospitality House, Umbach Cancer Foundation, and San Juan College Foundation. In 1991, Myron was named "Citizen of the Year" by the Farmington Chamber of Commerce. In 2005, he was inducted into the San Juan College Hall of Fame and was named a Fellow of San Juan College. In 2006, Myron was inducted into the San Juan Regional Medical Center Hall of Fame.
In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in many positions including a mission, Young Men's President, Elders Quorum President, High Priest Group leader, Stake High Council, Councilor in the Bishopric, Ward Clerk, teacher, and Family History Consultant. Myron and Revis also served one week a month for seven years in the Albuquerque LDS Temple.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Revis Washburn Taylor, and his two sons and their wives; Dean M. and Sabrina Taylor of Mesa, AZ, and Alan M. and Raeni Taylor of Gilbert, AZ, and fourteen grandchildren. Also one sister, Dorene Taylor Mills of Meridian, Idaho, and ten nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Jaris Elkins, Jeannine Ferre, and Deanna Avery.
Funeral services are under the direction of his nephew Martin Taylor Ferre of Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home. Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 14, 2014, 4400 College Blvd., with Grant Allred officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery where he will be buried close to his parents.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Casey, Marcus, Travis, Jared, Trevor, Caden, Timothy, Steven, Cody, Reyn, Ryker, Ridge, and Rane. Honorary pallbearers will his lifelong friends, the late Bruce Christensen, Skip McGee, Revelle Taylor, Robert Boice, Tick Wood, Ted Hamblin, Bob Mott, Larrie Wright, Tim Miller, Bob Smith and Joe Hartman, also the officers and directors of the old First National Bank of Farmington.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the San Juan College Foundation for the Myron and Revis Taylor Scholarship Fund for handicap students.
