Mildred Ellen James Houston Ray, 96, passed away on Friday, Oct. 31, 2014, at her home in Bloomfield. She was born Aug. 6, 1918, in Kokomo, Texas, to Luther and Lula James, the sixth of nine children. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, her first husband and father of her four children, Hollis Houston in 1955. As well as her second husband Henry Ray, her son-in-law Raymond Gillentine and four great-grandchildren and all of her siblings. She is survived by Ima (Jack) McKee, Illa (Carroll) Vaughn, Linda Gillentine all of Bloomfield and James (Shirley) Houston of Aztec. In addition to her four children she is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 36 great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great granddaughter born in July. Mildred and Hollis lived in Texas, many places in New Mexico and Arizona while raising their family. They considered Quemado their home. After Hollis passed away, she later married Henry. They lived in New Mexico, Texas and later moved back to New Mexico to be near her children. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening, painting and was a wonderful cook. She served the Lord faithfully as a life long member of the Church of Christ. In recent years she attended First Baptist Church where she made many friends. She was loved and respected by all who knew her, especially her more than 80 descendents. I love you a bushel and a peck, and a hug around your neck! A viewing will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m., with service following at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, at the First Baptist Church in Bloomfield. Officiating will be Pastor Monty Mullenix. Burial will be in Quemado. Pallbearers are Hollis Vaughn, Alan Vaughn, Randy McKee, Jerry McKee, Keith Gillentine, Travis Gillentine, Ricky Gillentine and Billy Houston. Honorary Pallbearers will be her great-grandsons. In lieu of flowers, donations maybe made in memory of Mildred to Gideon's, St. Judes's Children's Hospital and Samaritans Purse.
