Mike, 61, took the final stairway to Heaven Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, in Farmington. He was born July 12, 1955, in Williston, N.D and was raised in Fairview, Mont. He moved to Farmington with his then wife Carol, in 1978. He worked for Schlumberger and ReyJeans Safe and Lock before becoming owner and operator of Guardian Safe and Lock.
Mike took pride in his work and business. He also enjoyed woodworking and cheering on the New York Yankees. His children and grandchildren were his light and joy.
Mike will not only be missed by his family and loved ones, but he will be greatly missed by his many friends, customers, and fellow locksmiths. He was a great friend, loyal to a fault, and a man full of knowledge.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Earl (Red) Cherrey and Edith (Tiny) Cherrey; and his brother, Kelly. He is survived by his beloved children, Kristi Skinner (partner Colby Cockrell) and Justin (Jay) Cherrey (wife Sarah); grandchildren, Joslyn, Dominick, Payton, Logan, and Ryan Elizabeth; brothers, John, Pat, and Kevin; and his sisters, Katie, Elaine and Jeannie.
The family has planned a memorial service to celebrate his life at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 400 W. Apache St. in Farmington.
