Michael D. Arnold, 62, of Aztec, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2013 in Aztec. He was born Dec. 20, 1950 in Salamanca, N.Y. to F.P. and Janice Arnold.
Mike enjoyed flying, racing, hunting and gambling. He graduated from Farmington High School, Colorado Broadcast Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. and numerous trade and training schools.
Mike was a broadcast engineer at numerous radio stations, worked as a civilian for the U.S. Air Force, safety manager for NOWSCO services and several other oil field service companies, owner of Western Auto in Aztec, owner of M.P.M. Trucking in Aztec, employed with BHP Billiton and most recently a C.D.L. Instructor and Examiner for the San Juan College School of Energy.
He was a member of many social clubs and professional organizations, the Aztec Chamber of Commerce, the president of Aztec Kiwanis Club, EAA 997 of Durango, Colo. Chapter, member of Elk's Lodge 1747 for over 40 years, San Juan Wildlife Federation, National Rifle Association, Aircraft Owner and Pilots Association, Airport Support Network Volunteer, New Mexico Pilots Association, president of the New Mexico Airport Managers Association (2010-2011), Sports Car Club of America, raced at Aztec Speedway, New Mexico League Director (2005-2008), San Juan Water Commission, Alternate Municipal Judge in Aztec, Aztec Municipal Airport Manager (1988-2013) and the Aztec City Commission (1993-2008). He served two terms as the Mayor of Aztec.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Janice and his brothers, Kevin Arnold, Dennis Arnold and Dana Arnold.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia "Pat" Griego-Arnold (married Aug. 3, 1974); son, Mike (Stacey) Arnold II; precious poodle companion, Coco Love; father F.P. Arnold; sisters, Melissa (John) Fitz; sister-in-law, Rita Arnold; his granddoggies, Livy, Odie, Abby and Maggie Arnold and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
The immediate family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Mike's numerous friends and relatives, who were so kind and supportive during this tragic time. Your kindness and support will never be forgotten.

A rosary will be recited 7 p.m. on Friday, May 31, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 500 N. Mesa Verde Ave. in Aztec.
A mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Aztec., with Father Joachim Blonski and Father Kingsley George-Obilonu as celebrants.
Interment will follow in the Aztec Cemetery.
A reception will follow in the Parish Hall of the church.
Pallbearers are Tranky "TJ" Griego, Ken George, Wallace Begay, Mike Heal, Rick Greenaker, Carlton Gray, Petey Chapman and Jimmy Griego.
Honorary Pallbearers are the Aztec Police Department, Aztec City Employees, Aztec Kiwanis Club, EAA Chapter 997 of Durango, New Mexico Pilots Association, Jimmy Mascarenas, Dan Uhl, Ricky Wray and John Aspromonte.
Mike's care is entrusted to Cope Memorial Chapel of Aztec, 405 S. Main Ave., 505-334-9332.
