Melvin ""Horse"" Mills, 55, of Farmington, died on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington. Melvin was born May 1, 1957, in Cortez, Colo., the son of the late Henry Jacket Sr. and Georgiana King.
Melvin attended elementary, junior high, and high school in Cortez. Before medical retirement, he had been employed in various trades with the Ute Mountain Tribe, City of Farmington, La Plata Mine and Weeminuche Construction Co. Melvin was an avid fan of the Denver Broncos, New York Yankees and WWE. He was the lead singer of Red Sky Drum Group of Towaoc, Colo. and enjoyed the casinos. He was a member of Summit Church in Farmington.
Melvin leaves behind his wife, Marsha Watson-Mills; sons, Rodell Mills, Dalen Mills and Sheldon Simpson; daughters, Rochelle Mills and Shaneesa "Pipper" Mills; mother, Georgiana King; step-mother, Fern Jacket; brothers, Austin Jacket, Henry Jacket Jr., Mackey Bancroft, Calvin Mills, Ross Mills, Gregory Mills; sisters, Lydia Jacket, Ladonna King, Rita Wing, Donna Bancroft, Francilla Bancroft, Sandy House and Ellen Gurule; four grandchildren and many dear friends and family.
Melvin will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
A Celebration of Melvin's Life will be 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, at Summit Church, 1200 East 30th St. in Farmington with Pastor Dan Morrison officiating.
Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Teddy Wing, Davis Wing, Windy Mills IV, Heath Stands, Daron Davis, Jaron Jacket, Franklin Laner and Henry Jacket III.
