Mavis Spires-Blanton, 77, of Farmington, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, Aug. 10, 2015, after a long battle with lung and breast cancer. Mavis was born on Dec. 30, 1937, in Fort Pierce, Fla., to C.P. and Mildred Spires Blanton. She was the fourth of six children. She graduated in 1956, from Dan McCarty High School in Fort Pierce, Fla. Mavis married James Donald Blanton on April 11, 1958 and moved to Farmington, in 1960. Mavis enjoyed spending her time with family, traveling, being outdoors and painting. She loved her family more than anything.
James and Mavis had two children: son, James D. Blanton II of Denver, Colo. and daughter, Kelly Ann Lewis (Kevin) of Thornton, Colo.; six grandchildren, Brad Harris (Malessia) of Farmington, Erikka Martinez (Buddy) of Farmington, Matthew Martinez (Chantel Grubelnik) of Albuquerque, Claire Taulbee (Ethan Fox) of Lusby, Mar., Rachel and Sophie Taulbee of Denver; eight great-grandchildren, Max, Seth, and Shea Taulbee, Adysen, Bostyn and Camryn Martinez, and Zion and new baby Harris. Mavis is also survived by her sister, Faye Richardson of Cheyenne, Wyo.; brother, Carl Spires (Janice) of Young Harris, Ga.; sister-in-laws, Evelyn James of Aztec, Leah Blossom of Fort Pierce, Fla.; and Anne Halter of Clear Lake, Texas; brother-in-law, Charles Blanton of Gainsboro, Tenn.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, C.P. Spires and Mildred Spires Perry and father and mother-in-law, Randall and Mildred Blanton; sisters, Louise Lopes and Lois Mozingo; and brother, Virgel Spires.
Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private memorial will take place at a later time.
