Mary A. Barkley Newlon, 74, of Farmington passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2013 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Mary was born January 17, 1939 in Havre, Montana the daughter of Helen and Fred Barkley. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband William D. (Jack) Newlon, Sr. Mary leaves behind by her son William D. (Jack) Newlon, Jr. grandson Chris A. Newlon (Ashley Large), granddaughter Lacie L. Bizzell (Eric Conyers); sisters Dolores L. Copper Vance (Bobby) and Ruth Stensrud (John) and several nieces, nephews and many many friends.
Mary lived in Montana north of Great Falls most of her childhood. She later moved to Great Falls when she was 16 to live with her sister Dolores because her father insisted that she wear dresses instead of pants. Mary moved to Farmington when she was 18 in 1957 where she lived in a small tent for nearly a year. She was a pioneer woman, she was extremely resourceful. Mary was devoted to God and was an active and faithful member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Aztec. She loved her church and her family. Mary was a kind and excellent grandmother and friend who was willing to help anyone in need. She never knew a stranger. She was known as the "hat" lady and had many different hats. Mary dearly loved her son, grandson and granddaughter very much. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Visitation is Wednesday, October 30th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 East Ute St. in Farmington. Funeral services for Mary are Friday, November 1st at 10:00 a.m. at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home with Ron Price officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 6917 East Main St. in Farmington. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mary's name to La Vida Mission Crownpoint Fellowship, PO Box 3308, Farmington, NM 87499.
